Samsung Galaxy S4 Going Strong & Crosses 6 Million Shipments

Whatever critics of Samsung may say or write about its recently launched flagship smartphone – Galaxy S4, this device is the fastest selling smartphone of South Korean giant and doing wonders for the company. Samsung has shipped six million S4 till 10th May, reports South Korea’s local publication Chosun Ilbo.

Samsung is quoted as saying that by the end of April, the South Korean company had supplied four million Galaxy S4 handsets to operators around the world, and as of May 10th had shipped a total of 6 million Galaxy S4 units. Samsung expect to break the barrier of 10 million Galaxy S4 shipments by the end of this month. Going by the rave reviews it has been receiving wherever this device has been launched, this figure is not difficult to achieve.
It is interesting to note that Samsung took 85 days to ship three million S1 devices, and 55 days for the S2. It took 21 days to reach the 3 million mark with the S3.
However, Samsung’s arch-rival Apple’s iPhone 5 still remain the fastest selling smartphone and it iPhone 5 got two million pre-orders in the first 24 hours in which it was available, with first weekend sales passing the five million mark.
The Galaxy S 4 features a 5-inch full-HD screen with a resolution of 1080×1920 pixels, and pixel density of 441ppi. It is powered by 1.6GHz Exynos octa-core processor in some regions, and a 1.9GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor in others. It has 2GB of RAM, and  comes in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB variants but also feature a microSD card slot for expanding the memory. The Galaxy S4 sports a 13-megapixels rear shooter and a 2-megapixel one on the front.
The Galaxy S4 is so popular smartphone that Google has announced at its annual I/O developers conference that it will be selling Galaxy S4 with pure version of its Android OS, which means this phone will be unlocked,and  will work with any carrier in US, including those in other countries. But it also means the price won’t be subsidized by the carrier. Google will sell a Galaxy S4 with 16 gigabytes of internal memory for $649 in the US, beginning June 26. Google says that the new phone will be able to get Android updates as they come. Carriers sometimes block those updates from getting to locked phones.
