Samsung Galaxy K (aka Galaxy S5 Zoom) Camera phone Leaks Ahead of Official Announcement

Samsung Galaxy K 02

Last year, soon after the Samsung introduced its 2013 flagship, the Galaxy S4, a few spin offs of the device were released on the market: the Galaxy S4 Mini (which was an affordable compact smartphone), the Galaxy S4 Active (which was a rugged S4 variant), and the Galaxy S4 Zoom (which was a camera phone packing a 16 MP camera with 10x optical zoom). Reports in the industry are suggesting that Samsung will have a similar approach with the Galaxy S5.
Even though everybody through that Samsung would name its new cameraphone Galaxy S5 Zoom, it looks like the Koreans are willing to differentiate it from the recently-announced flagship and create a whole new range of devices by calling it Samsung Galaxy K.
The rumor mill speculated that the Galaxy K will be more compact than its predecessor, the Galaxy S4 Zoom, but that it will keep the 10x optical zoom functionality. Now we got a couple of leaked photos to confirm that. Even though the Galaxy K device you can see pictured below is wrapped in a silicon case, it’s quite obvious that it’s more compact than the Galaxy S4 Zoom.
Samsung promised to introduce the Galaxy K on April 29, so until then we can only rely on rumors to make an idea of its technical specifications. It seems that the new camera phone will arrive with a more powerful six-core Samsung Exynos 5 Hexa chipset, 2 GB of RAM, and a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED screen, most likely borrowed from the Galaxy S3. The camera was also improved with a 20 MP primary sensor with 10x optical zoom and Xenon flash, which is an upgrade over the 16 MP shooter of its predecessor.
It seems that the new handset will also sport a 2 MP front-facing camera and that it will run Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box, of course customized with Samsung’s TouchWiz interface.
