AT&T Samsung Galaxy S5 Active Officially Revealed

ATT Galaxy S5 Active 01

It has been rumored for a while that Samsung is readying a rugged variant of the Galaxy S5 that will end up on AT&T’s shelves in June. Dubbed Samsung Galaxy S5 Active, the handset has been officially introduced by the US-based carrier and it’s exactly what the rumors have suggested.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active boasts about the same 5.1-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display that equips the standard Galaxy S5 and this is not the only thing the two handsets have in common. Just like Samsung’s flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5 Active is underpinned by a Snapdragon 801 SoC based on four Krait 400 CPU cores at 2.5 GHz and a quad-core Adreno 330 GPU, has 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of native storage, support for microSD cards up to 128 GB, and the same 16 MP primary cam with phase detection autofocus and 4K video recording capabilities. It even has a heart rate monitor on the back which would be pretty useful for more active users.
The difference between the Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy S5 Active stands in the ruggedness of the later device. Even though both handsets are IP67 certified which means that are dust and water resistant, the Galaxy S5 comes with a metal-made body. Samsung has used MIL-STD 810G in the construction of the new smartphone, which is a metal used by military for shock resistant equipment.
Both handsets run Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box customized with TouchWiz UI, but the S5 Active also comes with a new app called Activity Zone which units all the activity and health-related features of the device. Oh, it even has a baromenter inside its case.
Just like previous leaks have suggested, Samsung Galaxy S5 Active will be more expensive than the standard Galaxy S5, mostly because it’s built using more expensive materials the flagship. The AT&T Samsung Galaxy S5 has an off-contract price of $714.99, $65 more than the Galaxy S5. Anyway, if you decide to purchase the Galaxy S5 Active from AT&T you will receive a discount of $50 for the Samsung Galaxy Fit.
