Best Smartwatches Announced at IFA 2015

Moto 360 2015 02

IFA is the largest tech fair in the second half of the year and all the big players of the tech industry are there to showcase their latest creations. IFA 2015 saw the debut of a lot of new smartphones and tablets, but the Berlin-based tech fair also brought us some interesting smartwatches.
Samsung, Motorola, Huawei, and ASUS were the center of attention when it came to smartwatches. Anyway, while Motorola, Huawei, and ASUS all released smartwatches underpinned by Google’s Android Wear platform, the South Korean company opted for Tizen OS.

ASUS Zenwatch 2

Last year’s ASUS Zenwatch was no doubt one of the best-looking smartwatches to hit the market. Now it has gotten a success which uses the same design language. However, the Zenwatch 2 can be purchased in two sizes.
One of the ASUS Zenwatch 2 variants comes with a 1.63-inch screen with 320 x 320 resolution (most likely the same screen used for the first gen Zenwatch), while the other has a smaller 1.45-inch display with 280 x 280 resolution. Hardware-wise, the two models are almost identical. We are talking about a quad-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 400 processor, 512 MB of RAM, and 4 GB native storage.
Screen aside, the main difference between the two is the battery. The larger Zenwatch 2 has a 400 mAh battery that promises 2 and a half days of life in ambient mode, while the smaller model has a 300 mAh battery that is supposed to get it through about 2 days of normal usage. ASUS claims that the Zenwatch 2 can go from o to 50% in just 36 minutes.

Huawei Watch

We’ve been knowing about the existence of the Huawei Watch for several months now and everybody was eager to see it in flash at IFA Berlin. Out of all the smartwatches that are currently available for purchase, Huawei’s Android Wear-powered terminal is the one that resemblances a traditional watch the most.
Huawei Watch comes with a round face, standard lugs, and measures 42 mm in diameter. The physical button is mounted in “2 o’clock” position, the screen is protected by a double layer sapphire crystal, while the strap and the body are made of 316L cold-forged stainless steel.
In terms of specifications, the Huawei Watch is similar to its rivals. It has a quad-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 400 CPU, 512 MB RAM, 4 GB native storage, and a 300 mAh battery that should provide around two days of regular use. The screen is a 1.4-inch Super AMOLED unit with 400 x 400 resolution and 286 ppi pixel density.

Motorola Moto 360 2nd gen

The 2nd gen Moto 360 is without a question on of the most anticipated smartwatches of the year. The original Moto 360 was quite popular among tech enthusiasts and now the 2nd gen is here. Furthermore, the watch is now available in two sizes: 46 and 42 mm.
Motorola’s devices are known for having a highly customizable design, the company allowing its customers to alter the way their smartphone / smartwatch looks via the Moto Maker tool. The 2nd gen Moto 360 has a thing called quick Release Bands which now allows customers to swap bands on the go. There’s even a collection for women that offers some interesting touches and color options.
The 46 mm Moto 360 features a 1.56-inch Backlit LCD screen with 360 x 330 resolution, while the 42 mm model has a 1.37-inch screen with 360 x 325 resolution. Both are powered by a Snapdragon 400 CPU at 1.2 GHz, both have 512 MB RAM, 4 GB storage, Bluetooth 4.0, and WiFi. The smaller model has a 300 mAh battery, while the larger one features a 400 mAh battery.

Samsung Gear S2

Samsung couldn’t have missed the opportunity to announce a new smartwatch at IFA 2015. Gear S2 is one of the two watches announced by the South Koreans in Berlin and, unlike the devices mentioned above, it runs Tizen OS.
In the past, Samsung’s Tizen smartwatches only worked with the company’s devices, but this new generation can also be paired with other Android-powered phones. Gear S2 has a rotating bezel that allows you to navigate through the menu and it will also be available with 3G which can handle regular voice calls.
Samsung Gear S2 has a 1.2-inch Full Circular sAMOLED screen with 360 x 360 resolution, 512 MB RAM, and 4 GB internal storage. While the Bluetooth model is powered by an Exynos 3250 processor with 250 mAh battery, the 3G variant has a Qualcomm MSM8x26 processor and 300 mAh battery.

Samsung Gear S2 Classic

If you prefer a more elegant watch, then you should take a look at the Gear S2 Classic. It was announced synchronized with the aforementioned Gear S2 and it shares many of its technical specifications.
Just like the sporty-er Gear S2, the Gear S2 Classic comes with a rotating bezel that helps you move around the menus and it’s also available in Bluetooth and 3G versions. Hardware-wise, it’s identical to the S2: 360 x 360 1.2-inch Full Circle sAMOLED screen, 512 MB RAM, 4 GB storage, Exynos 3250 / Qualcomm MSM8x26 CPU, and 250 / 300 mAh battery
